Scholarship Application Deadline: April 15.

The Minnesota Debate Institute offers several full and partial scholarships — for both commuter and residential options — to students hoping to attend MDI 2017!

If you would like to be considered for a scholarship to camp this summer, please complete the form below. (Incomplete applications will not be considered.) We recommend that you compose the essay in an outside program, like a word document, and then paste your work into our form.

These are need-based scholarships. If you can afford to attend camp without a scholarship, please leave our small pot of money for those who really do need it. The scholarship application deadline is April 15, 2017. If you accept a scholarship, you must commit to attend the entire week of camp.

If you have any further questions we encourage you to email us at mndi@umn.edu. We also encourage you to email us once you submit your application to confirm we’ve received it — this is the only way we’ll know if you had technical issues that prevented your application from getting into our system.

Good luck, and we look forward to seeing you at camp this summer!

Fields marked with a * are required.

Do you qualify for free or reduced price lunch? If so, please indicate which program your family is eligible for by clicking one of the boxes below. (If awarded a scholarship, a verification process will be conducted).

If you do not qualify for free or reduced price lunch but you still think you need a scholarship, please write in the box below to explain your situation. We understand that a lot of factors may impact your need for a scholarship.

If you do qualify for free or reduced price lunch, you may use this box to offer any additional explanation (not at all required--just an option if you want to do so).

If you would be able to pay for a portion of your camp tuition, even a small amount, please let us know. We hope to meet the full need of every student, but we do have a limited amount of scholarship money.

Would you be able to commute to and from camp each day?

If awarded a commuter scholarship, would you be able to provide your own meals each day?

From a financial standpoint, how would a scholarship impact your debate education? How would you benefit from attending the Minnesota Debate Institute? Answer these questions—and tell us anything else you think we should know—in an essay of 400-600 words.

Please ask your coach to email us a letter of recommendation (mndi@umn.edu) that speaks to why a scholarship to MDI would benefit you and your team, your commitment to the activity, and anything else they would like to tell us. (If they can speak to your financial need, please ask them to do so.)

Your scholarship application will not be considered complete until this recommendation is received. Please click the box below to indicate your agreement to these terms.

Please note that we can only award scholarships to debaters who commit to attend the entirety of camp.

Thanks for filling out this application! You can submit below -- but don't forget to ask your coach for a letter of recommendation!
